This year the celebration blossoms
all weekend long!

YOU are cordially invited to BOB BAKER DAYS 2017 - the 3rd Annual Celebration of Bob Baker’s legacy! Let the puppets and the people of the Bob Baker Marionette Theater entertain you with the sights and sounds of a celebration you’ll never forget - now extending into an ENTIRE WEEKEND! This 2-day festival debuts the opening of a new act for the Bob Baker Marionette Theater as a non-profit organization, unveiling long-awaited plans into another half-century, and more… and it’s brimming with marionettes and ice cream cups for generations of Angelenos and visitors, both new and seasoned! 

The place where imagination dwells spills onto West First Street as a whimsical Carnival, sponsored by City Council District #1! Enjoy your favorites among an all-day outdoor stage with live music and entertainment, puppet-making workshops with the Los Angeles Guild of Puppetry, Carnival midway games, fortune telling, educational and exhibition booths from the local art community. food trucks, walk around entertainment and more. With round-the-clock puppet shows and a pop-up puppet museum going on inside the Theater, the day culminates into a silent auction and variety show fundraising extravaganza!

The festivities retreat back into the Theater, giving guests a festive and romantic setting for a day-long celebration of the history this living theater. Beginning in the morning, you’ll find yourself with breakfast and Screen Novelties’ presentation of Bob Baker’s work in film and television. Ease into the afternoon with rare and intimate discussion with some of the living legends from the Theater’s extensive history hosted by KPCC’s Alex Cohen, and the evening endcap for this weekend of whimsy comes with a delightful Bob Baker Marionette Theater area of expertise: an honorary Birthday Party from the Bob Baker Puppeteers for the legendary late founder, puppet master and birthday boy, Mr. Bob Baker – and all his very special guests - YOU!



Bob Baker Days 2017 kicks off with a marching drum BANG! From Vista Hermosa Park down to our courtyard, join puppets of all shapes and sizes, a girl scout color guard, and so much more in a vibrant and family friendly procession to start off the day’s celebration.

  • Gathering at 9:45

  • Children must be supervised.

  • Colorful attire, flags, streamers and instruments highly encouraged.

  • Parade starts at 10 a.m. - approx. 20 min - culminating in an opening ceremony - immediately followed by our first theater show of the day at 10:30  and the beginning of our outside carnival!

  • Parade participants will be given first priority entrance to our $5 show.


10am: Kick off parade, open to all, followed by our first puppet show of the day.

sHOWTIMES: 10:30 a.m., 12:00 P.m., 1:30 P.M., 4:30 P.m.

Let us enchant you with Bob Baker’s hand-crafted marionettes for half-an-hour filled with his most charming and talked-about numbers, all set to the magnificent backdrop of his most beloved accomplishment; his Living Theater!

3:00 p.m.: Tom Kenny & the Hi-Seas!

The voice of Spongebob Squarepants graces the Bob Baker stage at 3pm for the first time as Tom Kenny & The Hi-Seas! Come listen to this Los Angeles-based ‘50s/’60s Rock/Soul/R&B band that simply ‘brings the party’ wherever and whenever they perform. They are the embodiment of the true foundational basis of no-holds-barred, all-in rock ‘n’ roll. Simply put, their mission statement can be summed up as follows: generating a circumstance conducive to having fun. As much fun as humanly possible!

5:30 P.M. - Silent Auction Soiree

Join us for a dessert and wine pairing lead by a sommelier from The Wine House in our historic Party Room! Support us at our Silent Auction while enjoying sights and sounds of our pop-up Puppet Museum!

7:00 P.M. - Friends & Frolics Variety Show

With your hosts, Ron Lynch!   Featuring the live talents of musician Lynda Kay, entertainer King Kukulee, juggler Lindsay Benner, Emo Philips, surprise guests… and of course... the Bob Baker Marionettes!


10.00 A.M. Breakfast!

11:00 A.M.  - Cinefamily presents Animation powerhouse Screen Novelties as they host a jamboree of curated clips from Bob Baker’s legendary work in Television and Film! This show is preceded by a delightful breakfast!

1:30 P.M. - Curators of the Curious and Wondrous, Atlas Obscura brings to you KPCC’s Alex Cohen for a very special engagement with Bob Baker Marionette Theater living legends, Richard Shuler, Tina Gainsborough, John Leland and Ursula Heine! Listen in as they tell their incredible tales from behind the strings and find out what it was like to create Los Angeles history! A MUST for the Bob Baker Marionette Theater enthusiast!

4 :00 P.M. - All wrapped up and tied with a bow!  It’s Bob’s Birthday Party - and the Bob Baker Puppeteers have put together their very own Birthday present just for him: an entire show comprised of their hand-selected personal favorites!  Take in the adventure as their voices guide you through their unique and personal experiences being a Bob Baker Puppeteer and share with you a devotion to a magnificent art and an incredible legacy!  Happy Birthday, Bob!
