FAQ

WHAT IS HAPPENING TO THE BBMT?

The final day the Theater in its current location will be open to the public is Friday, November 23rd, 2018 (the day after Thanksgiving, which is the same day the Theater opened 55 years ago). One day later, on November 24, the Bob Baker Marionette Theater will open Bob Baker's Nutcracker presented at the Pasadena Playhouse for 5 weeks.

After our residency at the Playhouse, we will go on the road with “Imagination Dwells Here,” leading up to the grand opening of our new space!

WHAT IS “IMAGINATION DWELLS HERE?”

#ImaginationDwellsHere defines what we do and what it feels like wherever Bob Baker Marionettes perform and enchant! With #ImaginationDwellsHere, the Theater continues with residencies, performances, and pop-ups at the Santa Monica PierDynasty TypewriterMiracle Mile Toy HallKidSpace, the YARD Theater and more. The Bob Baker Marionette Mobile will launch as a traveling ice cream truck and puppet caravan.

WHAT IS HAPPENING WITH THE BUILDING?

In recent years, we had planned to move back into the current location as part of the high density housing to be built on the site, but as those plans come together and with an incredible amount of growth and success in the past few years, a future Bob Baker that continues that growth and shares the magic will be best served at a new location – where we will continue to showcase Bob Baker shows as Bob and his team made them, expand our programming and partnerships, build new shows and puppets, properly preserve and restore the endless pieces of art, and most of all open our doors to share Bob Baker’s work. We are designing our new Theater using original and unrealized concepts by Bob Baker himself; incorporating all the beloved features of the current theater from the drywall to the chandeliers. While we are building out our new space, we will journey wherever imagination dwells as part of our "Imagination Dwells Here" program!
