Field Trips

A child’s first theatrical experience, including lights, drops, curtains, and 100 hand-crafted marionettes performing to an enchanting eclectic mix of music from years gone by!

For over 60 years, we’ve encouraged kids (and kids at heart) to take a seat criss-cross-applesauce on the carpet to watch the marionettes dazzle and delight at eye-level! Don’t worry — we have plenty of chair seating, as well.

Field trips are available for school groups, homeschool groups, Boy and Girl Scout Troupes, and senior centers.

Tickets cost $15 per person, regardless of age, including students, teachers, and chaperones.

The Bob Baker Marionette Theater offers two different field trip time slots:

  • On Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays, we offer a morning time slot. For these AM field trips, arrival is scheduled for 10:00 AM, and the show begins at 10:30 AM.

  • On Wednesdays and Thursdays, we offer an afternoon time slot. For these PM field trips, arrival is scheduled for 2:00 PM, and the show begins at 2:30 PM. These field trips are designed to meet the requirements for the Cultural Arts Passport (CAP) funded field trips, though they are open to all interested groups.

After the show, the puppeteers are happy to answer questions, show off the puppets up close, and give a peek behind the curtains to see what it takes to make a show come together!

More Than a Puppet Show

Get the most out of your visit by tying the show into your lesson plan! A puppet show not only exposes children to live theater, but it is also a dazzling display of craftsmanship from generations of skilled artists! From sculptors to costumers, painters to musicians, engineers to choreographers, each marionette was lovingly handmade — and it shows! There are so many opportunities in each performance to spark educational conversations with students.

During a performance, the Theater comes to life! There will be loud music, dramatic lighting, curtain changes, and puppets galore. The puppets are just as excited to see you as you are to see them — they may even come right to you in the audience! We encourage our guests to sit back, relax, clap real loud, and sing along if you know the songs, as we proudly present the Bob Baker Marionettes!
